Glasgow Airport Hotel Takes Off With A New Look And Brand
Tuesday 27th September 2016
The conveniently located Ramada Glasgow Airport Hotel is set to re-brand as a Courtyard by Marriott following the multi-million pound refurbishment of all its 114 bedrooms, reception space and conferencing, hospitality and leisure facilities.
The hotel, on the doorstep of the airport and just 15 minutes’ drive from Glasgow city centre, is undergoing the transformation after owner and operator Cairn Group dedicated a significant investment towards the refurbishment and re-branding.
On completion it will be one of only two Courtyard by Marriott hotels in Scotland, alongside Aberdeen, and the first in the UK – and second in Europe – to carry the latest 2.1 Courtyard design.
The refurbishment is currently underway on the accommodation and a complete refit of the ground floor which includes the hotel’s restaurant and bar venue The Bistro, serving Starbucks coffee and hosting three media pods with curved seating booths and individual TV screens.
A fitness centre – brand new to the hotel’s offering – along with the complete re-branding is due to be revealed in September 2016. A business centre is being created within the lobby hosting two computer terminals with complimentary internet access and three meeting rooms for corporate clients. Courtyard by Marriott’s ‘the Market’ concept will be introduced providing confectionery and refrigerated convenience products as well as chilled drinks and travel accessories to enjoy.
The lobby will also see the installation of welcome reception pedestals, designed to open up engagement with guests on their arrival and throughout their stay.
The GoBoard, a Courtyard by Marriott unique concept, offers touchscreen technology allowing visitors to view the latest airport arrival and departure information, the most popular tourist attractions and more at their fingertips.
Leading the team is newly-appointed general manager Matthew Hole who joined the Cairn Group from Marriott in April 2016 to lead the hotel’s refurbishment, re-branding and beyond.
Having previously worked for Marriott in various senior roles at London Heathrow/Windsor, Cardiff and most recently at Hollins Hall Hotel & Country Club, the 46-year-old, originally from Plymouth, is planning key business objectives to drive the hotel forward. Matthew said: “After being on a 17 year journey with Marriott beginning in 1999, I was looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to move to the Cairn Group and take charge of such an exciting venture was perfect for me.
With a strong affiliation to the Marriott brand, I’ve been involved in the refurbishment and re-branding from the very start.” “There are over 1,000 Courtyard by Marriott branded hotels globally making it the most dominant brand within the Marriott portfolio and the eighth largest brand globally, which is now gaining momentum in the UK.
“The changes range from new stylish uniforms for our hosts, to the transformation of our new bedrooms and public spaces. We can’t wait to greet our guests and welcome them to Courtyard by Marriott.
There is a new guest arrival experience as the new welcome pedestals allow hosts to easily join the guest in the lobby to help make their stay even more enjoyable.”
As one of Europe’s fastest growing airports, 8.7 million passengers traveled through Glasgow Airport’s doors in 2015. The city itself is a popular conferencing location thanks to the likes of The SSE Hydro, SECC and the Armadillo, attracting thousands of conference delegates each year.
Matthew added: “We can boast great accessibility with links not just to the airport but to Scotland’s motorways and Glasgow Central railway station so being able to print-off a boarding pass in our lobby will add value for our guests.”
“For those visiting for leisure and tourism, we are located just twenty minutes from the shores of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, or a short distance to stunning sea views and world famous golf courses, making us an ideal base from which to explore Scotland.”
Future plans for the Courtyard by Marriott Glasgow Airport comprise of the addition of 56 bedrooms to bring the total number at the property to 170 by mid-2017.
